Deantlered Moose and Anteater Specialist?  You might be wondering what this
homepage is going to be about.
Don't panic!  I promise it won't be too unusual,
although I am an unusual kind of person.  Instead of writing a lot, I'm putting pictures up so people can see a little bit of the bizarre world I live in.

South Hall, my little part of the Greater Tolbert Area.

South 215, my room!  I live in a double size room without the hassle of a roommate.  It's a hard life, but someone has to live it!

It's no big secret that I'm a huge Gator fan since I attend UF here in Gainesville, Florida.  This week I'm a sophomore majoring in Human Resources Development.  We'll have to see how long this major lasts.  I'm nineteen and I like chocolate almost as much as I like being a Florida
Gator!

I'm just starting off another exciting summer semester in Gainesville.  I have acquired an eclectic mix of credits over the span of 3 semesters too.  I think it's a result of having had just about a major per semester.  First I was learning to be a pharmacist, and then a nurse.  Now I'm going to be a Human Resources Development major, so I'm not sure what that will translate into in terms of a career.  Its just the kind of major that has graduate school written all over it.

The University of Florida campus from the sky.  You can see Shands Hospital on the left (it's the large cluster of buildings at the left middle edge of the screen) and the stadium up at the top middle.  My residence hall is near the stadium where the arrow is pointing.

The picture of me and the important people is from Residence Hall Week, a huge event that the Inter-Residence Hall Association hosts each spring.  I'm the Business Manager for IRHA, which is the reason for me having a double room with no roommate.  Below here are some pictures from the IRHA Spring Banquet when I was installed!  I also won a couple of awards like Area Government of the Year, and the NACURH, Inc. Bronze Pin for Outstanding Accomplishments (it was for counting all of the parking spots on campus for a committee I was on).

Me looking important with Dr. Sandeen (Vice President for Student
Affairs) and Dr. Lombardi (President of the University) at the
Residence Hall Week Leadership Reception.

Four generations of Business Managers: Laurel Ring, Keith Lanson, Suke Pathak, and myself.

The proud and noble new Business Manager greets his adoring fans…  Wait a second, who got a hold of that picture?!?!

So what is it that I do that I'm wearing a suit so often?  Like I said, I'm the Business Manager of the Inter-Residence Hall Association.  IRHA is the third largest student organization at UF, and it works to improve residence life for all of the students who live on campus.  That's almost seven thousand people, so we're on the move all the time.

As the Business Manager, I'm in charge of half of our budget, all of our equipment, training area government business managers, and working with local businesses and Student Government.  Before I was elected to serve on the Executive Board I was also in the Tolbert Area Council, the local area government where I lived.

But wait, there's more!  IRHA is affiliated with the Florida Association of Residence Halls, and the South Atlantic Affiliate of NACURH, Inc. a national student run corporation which has the same goal of improving the residence halls for students and developing student leaders.  I also serve on the FARH State Board of Directors.  I'm in charge of recognition for the entire state of Florida.  Because of these bigger affiliations, IRHA members get the chance to attend 3 conferences, one for the state, region, and nation.  Here are some pictures from the NACURH '99 Conference, which was in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

My family at Banquet.  Don't we look nice?  I think the tie I'm wearing is especially nice.  Unfortunately its not mine; I borrowed it from my father.

Roll call at NACURH '99.  NACURH has 8 regional affiliates and each region learns a song and dance routine that we perform at roll call.  The region UF belongs to, SAACURH, has won best roll call twice in a row now!  This is another region, I couldn't take a picture of SAACURH since I was in it.

Installment of the SAACURH Executive Committee.  The SEC serves as the Regional Board of Directors for SAACURH.  Two of the new SEC members are from UF: Ed Borden and Marc Dodd.  Both of them are good friends of mine!

UF wins Most Spirited Delegation for dressing up in newspaper and lip-syncing.  Taking home the prize: Cory Kravit, Tarah Brand, Paul Sherman, Jenny LaBelle, Suke Pathak, Jill Zimmerman.

A lot of stuff both fun and serious happens at our conferences.  We attend and present programs for leadership development (I was selected to presented two programs).  We also have fun activities like spirit competitions, roll call, and dances.  Last but not least there are business meetings that our NCCs (National Communications Coordinators) attend.  Since NACURH is a corporation, there is lots of business and legislation that goes on, so those meetings can get kind of boring.  Fortunately only our NCCs attend them.

Schools present bids in order to host conferences and the two national offices, the National Information Center and the NRHH Office.  UF bid to host the National Information Center, which is the administrative office for NACURH.  The next NACURH Conference will be in Colorado, two schools bidding for it were from Colorado and Kansas.

I had a lot of fun at NACURH '99 and I got to learn new things and share things I had learned with other people.

IRHA Exec.: all dressed up for the NACURH '99 Banquet.  Ladies: Jenny LaBelle (NCC for Communications), Jill Zimmerman (Auditor), Karen Peterson (Secretary), Diane "DP" Porter (Adviser).  Gentlemen: Brian Maddux (NCC for Conferences), Norb Dunkel (Adviser), Suke Pathak (President), Jonathan Zerulik (Business Manager), and Marc Dodd (Vice President and Regional Associate Director for NRHH).

I've gotten attached to IRHA and the people in it.  I think we all work hard to make things better for the people living on campus, and will still manage to have a good time and be friends.

There's more to life than just IRHA though.  I also am a fan of good movies, good chocolate, and humorous comic strips like
DILBERT, which is a personal favorite.
